Five of the Best Technology Tools to Engage Students

As the use of technology is growing ever more important, so is the core value of making use of engagement. The evolution of the classroom has advanced from the blackboard to digital usage which has now become integral for student development including phones, tablets even laptops.

Phones can be distracting and banned from the classroom; tutors tend to engage with their tech-savvy students by using their phones or laptops inside the classroom while using online tools to help students complete their assignments. While it is good to incorporate games into the lecture, it is also vital that the game in question can create a strong level of attention.

But the most important question is, as students are developing in a world that is saturated by technology, should the use of such technology have a stronger influence within the classroom?

Here are the five technological tools to engage students within the classroom.

1. Kahoot

Kahoot! Quizzes and questionnaires can be created using this tool. These are helpful for graphing assignments, research papers, and class feedback. Student interest is maintained with its game-like feel and compatibility with multiple devices. And the game can also be used as an engagement tool for students to build chemistry or break the ice with other classmates.

2. Class Dojo

This is a fun tool to gamify the classroom. The teacher and the class agree on the scoring system based on classroom behavior, discussion methods, and other soft skills. Teachers can utilize Class Dojo to register and develop presentations to simplify information for themselves and for when students take notes. Students will uphold class values by using this tool, while teachers can adapt their teaching tactics according to the metrics provided by this tool.

3. Prezi

Lectures are an essential aspect of the learning curriculum however, even PowerPoint cannot always be engaging. Prezi offers students the creative freedom to develop more interesting presentations, which can be better for students as well as better for watching. Additionally, Prezi presentations allow students to share publicly, with their classmates, so that they can access the content while they do their notes. Finally, Prezi works better because it offers an alternative richer toolbar than PowerPoint.

4. Nearpod

What makes Nearpod a powerful tool among lecturers and teachers? It utilizes well-known applications such as Google Slides, and Microsoft applications including PowerPoint, YouTube videos and many more. Making them interactive by utilizing MOOCs (Massive Online Open Courses) to deliver content, simulations to engage interactively, virtual reality, and many other cool apps you’ve never heard of (or even though existed). Here are a few ways to use Nearpod for your students.

5. Gimkit

There’s a reason why students don’t want to attend lectures on their own time. As they choose to focus instead on their video games. Tying in fun learning experiences with those experiences, learning happens. Plus, when we incorporate how our students like to play and have fun in their classroom, engagement occurs. This tool was co-created by high school learners. Gimkit is a game show station where students invest their own virtual currency to “win” a jackpot. School isn’t without its legally approved optional supplemental programs, like those offered by an in-school.
